Excursions
An excursion is a valuable way to gain information. Often it is difficult to organise excursions for Legal Studies Students in Distance Education. If you have the initiative you can organise your own excursion. The report you write on the excursion will be counted as 1 week's work. 

Here is a list of places which you may find interesting.

Appropriate Behaviour in Court

  • Courteous Manner: It is important to have a courteous manner. Upon entering a Court which is in session, look at the judge and bow your head. If you leave the court before the case is over face the judge and bow your head before going out the door.
  • Dress Code: Wear clean presentable clothing. Do not wear thongs, hats or shorts.
  • In Court: You must be quiet. If you want to take notes you need to ask the Sheriff for permission.
Student Activity

Write a report on your excursion.

Minimum 1 A4 page

Maximum 5 A4 pages

In your report you may wish to include 

  • Observations 
  • Explanations of legal terms used
  • Diagrams of Court layout
  • Description of the roles played by members of the court 
  • Your impression of the court room atmosphere
  • Any other relevant information
  • Anything you learnt
