The Great Obelisk

The Great Obelisk

The Great Obelisk (similar to Cleopatra's Needle in London) looks to be of Egyptian origin. However it has nothing to do with Ancient Egypt but a lot to do with the way the citizens of Sydney felt about the city where they lived. It was erected as a 'stink pipe' to commemorate the opening of the underground sewerage system, part of the late 19th Century 'war against disease'.
