Overview of Russia and Introduction
Focus: Students will investigate significant changes to the political, social and economic systems in Russia after 1861 and the people and ideas involved in these changes.
Outcomes
While studying this topic your should learn to:
- identify the key features of the period we are studying
- describe the role of key individuals, groups, events and ideas in events of the 19thC
- identify the forces that brought about change and the forces that caused continuity in the period
- identify different types and varieties of historical sources
- select and organise relevant historical information from a variety of sources
- communicate clearly in well-structured text
- use appropriate historical concepts and terms.
Material to be studied:
- The Romanovs
- The social, political and economic structure of Russia under their rule
- The reasons for changes to these structures in the early 20th Century
- The parts played in these events by important individuals, groups and ideas.
