Some facts on Russia

Geography
  1. Russian occupied 1/6th of the earth's land surface
  2. it occupied 1/2 of Europe and 1/3 of Asia
  3. it had frontiers with twelve countries
  4. it was washed by twelve seas from three oceans
  5. Southern Russia is sub-tropical
  6. Northern Russia is within the Arctic Circle: 1/3 of the land is permanently frozen.
People
  1. total population 1897 - approximately 110 million
  2. three quarters of the population was Slavic
  3. the remaining quarter belonged to 180 different nationalities
  4. 125 languages were spoken
  5. 40 religions were practised - the main religion was Orthodox Christianity
