Introduction
Participating students, parents and teachers outside the entrance to the old goal


This virtual history excursion begins at Kings Cross Railway Station and ends at Taylor Square in Sydney, Australia. It includes visits to:
  • St John's Anglican Church Darlinghurst to see the 'Dunbar' memorials
  • The Sydney Jewish Museum to learn about Jewish immigration to Australia and learn about the Holocaust that took place in Europe between 1933 and 1945.
  • The memorials in Green Park
  • Old Darlinghurst Gaol (now East Sydney TAFE College) to see where Sydney criminals were imprisoned and executed between 1841 and 1912 and where Australians of German and Turkish origin were held during World War I.
  • The Supreme Court of NSW (now called Darlinghurst Courthouse) where some of our most notorious court cases were heard.
  • The Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School
Working through this virtual excursion and completing the study guide is equal to one week's work in History in Stages 4 and 5 (Years 7 to 10).

You need to download the study guide and print a copy as you wlll need it to make notes as you visit each part of the excursion. At the end of the virtual excursion you can type in your answers and return the guide to your teacher either as an email attachment or in the post.
