Outcomes and aims
Welcome to a virtual excursion to Sydney's Government House, Parliament House and the animals of Macquarie Street. This excursion and the task blow help you complete a site study which is a mandatory requirement of the Yr 7 - 10 History syllabus of New South Wales. Go to this link to find more detailed outcomes.
The aims of your study are:
- to gain a knowledge of the history of the two houses
- to understand their role in the political life of the country
- to learn about significant changes that took place in their history
- to recognize the value of learning about heritage
- to identify the various animals of Macquarie Street and learn their stories
- to appreciate the importance of preserving our heritage
Your task
The History Faculty at SSDEC is running a competition on The History of Houses. Your task is to write about Sydney's Government House and Parliament House to show:
- their influence on life in Australia in the 19th and 20th centuries
- their importance in the governing of NSW
- what they tell us about the meaning of Australian citizenship
- why these places are important to our heritage and should be preserved.
You will also identify the animals of Macquarie Street.
