The Waller Monument

The Wallers were victims of the tragedy that befell the Dunbar when it sank off South Head in 1857 when returning from England. Since 121 people perished - and only one survived - the disaster touched many families in the colony.

Those who could be identified were separately buried, such as the Wallers. Their monument shows the Dunbar sinking into the waves.
