This is now - What SDEHS means to me
|
The Sydney Secondary Distance Education Centre has helped me a lot during the two years I have been there. I started at the school in late 1997 after missing around six months of school due to illness. Like some of the other students at the Distance Education Centre I suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Since I enrolled the school has helped me catch up with my studies and has helped me control my illness by allowing me to study at home and not having to travel. The teachers are very nice and frequently visit their students to go over any problems the student may have or just to let the student know how they are going with their work. I am now in Year 10 and will very soon be sitting for my School Certificate. The School has made it easier for me to do this and has helped me in achieving this. Doing your schooling by correspondence isn't easy as it sounds. You don't have the disturbances of a classroom, but you have other tempting things that could interrupt your studies. But if you put your mind to it and concentrate on the one thing you'll be just fine.

History excursion to the Rocks, 1998 The school also has excursions and camps for its students. They have movie days and subject and subject excursions to all different places like Wonderland and the Rocks. These excursions are not only to show you stuff you may be learning about but are also to let you meet some of the other students.
Excursion to the Powerhouse Museum As I said I've been enrolled in the school for almost two years now and I feel it has helped me tremendously in both catching up with my studies and in controlling my illness. I also think that if I had not enrolled in distance education, I would definitely not be sitting for my School Certificate this year. Skye, Year 10 |
